Topic of the Study: “Study on the enhancement of bioelectricity production by marine bacteria”
Guide: Dr. A. Arun
University: Alagappa University
Highlights of the study
Microorganisms that can combine the oxidation of organic biomass to electron transfer to electrodes put forward the self-sufficient systems that can successfully convert waste organic matter and reusable biomass into electricity. Oxidation of these newly rigid sources of organic carbon does not supply net carbon dioxide to the environment and unlike hydrogen fuel cells; there is no requirement for wide pre-handing out of the fuel or for costly catalysts. Further investigations into the physiology and ecology of microbes that transfer electrons to electrodes are essential to carry out these optimizations in a rational manner. Marine bacteria develop biofilms on the MFC electrodes, allowing considerable conversion capacity and opportunities for extracellular electron transfer (EET).

Topic of the Study: “Morpho Taxonomy, Community Structure and Functional Characteristics of mangrove crabs”
Guide: Dr. Rosamma Philip
University: Cochin University of Science & Technology
Highlights of the study
This study is mainly focused on the morpho-taxonomy, molecular taxonomy and community structure of mangrove crabs. 10 species of mangrove crabs belonging to five families namely Portunidae (4 species), Pinnatheridae (1 species), Grapsidae (1 Species), Sesarmidae (3 species) and Ocypodidae (1 species) were identified. Molecular taxonomy and primary barcode submission of Neosarmatium malabaricum (MH267804, MH267805, MH267806) Pseudosesarma crassimanum (MH290823 and MH267824) and Metopograpsus thukuhar which enhance the relevance of study. Crabs play an important role in nutrient cycling which was evidenced through gut content analysis of Parasesarma plicatum and Neosarmatium malabaricum. Crabs in the mangrove ecosystem across the world are a least explored area where the reliability of prerequisites is under a question mark because of many misidentifications due its structural plasticity.
