Abstract

Biosurfactant-producing microorganisms show potential for bioremediation of oil from soil and water surfaces. These hydrocarbonoclastic microorganisms release biosurfactants, which play a significant role in the bioremediation of oil. The present study focuses on various isolation and screening strategies for biosurfactant- producing organisms from oil-polluted sites. A total of eight isolates showing morphological variations were isolated and screened for biosurfactant production using various tests like Hemolysis assay, Drop collapse assay, Oil displacement assay, Microtiter plate assay, Emulsification index assay, and Phenol: Sulphuric acid assay. The potent biosurfactant producer was identified as Bacillus halosaccharovorans with 16s rRNA sequencing. FTIR analysis was performed on the extracted biosurfactant. To our knowledge, this paper is the first to demonstrate that Bacillus halosaccharovorans is a biosurfactant producer.
