Prof. Wazir Singh Lakra is the Former Secretary of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), New Delhi, and the Former Vice Chancellor and Director of the ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai. An internationally acclaimed fisheries scientist, academic leader, and institution builder, he has over four decades of experience in fisheries science, aquaculture biotechnology, fish genetics, aquatic biodiversity conservation, and higher agricultural education. His pioneering contributions to fisheries genomics, DNA barcoding, aquatic biotechnology, genetic resource management, and sustainable aquaculture have significantly advanced research, innovation, and policy in the sector. Prof. Lakra has also played a key role in scientific administration, research management, capacity building, and international collaborations, contributing substantially to the sustainable development of fisheries and aquatic resources.
