The impact of lead on growth, chlorophyll and productivity potentials of Tetraselmis gracilis (Kylin)

Newby Joseph, Soffiamma Paul and A.V. Saramma

The impact of varying concentrations of lead, one among the major pollutanln in aquatic enviornment on a tetraflagellate Tetraselmis gracilis was studied. Though the pollutant inhibited a l l synthesis and reduced chlorophyll conantration the impact was the maximum on primary organic production. Even at a very low concentration of 0.001 ppm the cut in potential production was estimated to be 97%.
