Calling all former International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE) participants

The International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE) was one of the greatest international, interdisciplinary oceanographic research efforts which involved forty-six research vessels (under fourteen different flags).  Hydrographic surveys (and repeat surveys) of the entire Indian Ocean basin from 1960–1965 were carried out to explore this region which was practically unexplored. India also participated and contributed in IIOE and four Indian ships, namely INS Kistna, INS Varuna, RV Conch (University of Kerala) and FV Bangda (Min. Food & Agriculture) participated in the expedition. The IIOE cruises made detailed observations in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

The MECOS2 is honoring all IIOE participants on its 50th anniversary.  Please get in touch with the MECOS2 secretariat for details.
